Couples Session Guide
Welcome to the ultimate couples session guide
I’m so glad you’ve made it here, I am just as excited as you to capture some fun moments! I understand the anticipation and planning can be stressful sometimes so I hope this guide helps ease your mind. I am here to create a memory bank for you to have forever, you should look back at these images and remember how you felt, so be ready to let those raw emotions out! You want your session to represent YOU, keep in mind your personal taste, style and personality as you make your way through this guide. Along with information you will also find links to inspiration, it is encouraged to do your own research based off of your personality but I have provided a good starting point for each topic.
Wardrobe
Let’s just attack this one head on, the part most people fear the most, WHAT TO WEAR. Are you most people? Does coordinating outfits make you want to hide in the deepest part of your closet? We’ll get through this together, it’s actually pretty simple once we break it down.
Personal style is first and most important when planning your outfit. You want to feel like yourself and feel confident in what you are wearing. There is no one “perfect outfit” that covers all styles, there is the perfect outfit for YOU and that is the goal here. If you are a simple person and don’t feel the need to “do up” an outfit, that is 100% fine, on the other hand if you don’t feel like yourself without all the accessories - accessorize! (and everything in between). Not a dress person - skip it, hate jeans - don’t wear, tank tops don’t do it for you - we don’t need em, button ups make you feel like you’re going somewhere stuffy - ditch them! Everyones body types are different and different styles flatter different types, don’t feel like you need to try to wear something just because you saw a photo of it, find what works for you and work it.
Next we are going to think about is location. Where is your session taking place, what type of scenery is it, what is the weather like? When picking an outfit you want to be sure it makes sense with where your session is taking place and the colors compliment the scenery. Beach sessions do tend to end up in the water towards the end (if you’re cool with it) so keep this in mind and maybe bring a change of clothes or a towel for after. Weather should play a big part when putting together your fit - you know yourself best so dress to be comfortable. Keep in mind sweat stains, sweat drips, goosebumps, being too cold to move, jackets and accessories can be great if we are in transitioning weather to ensure you are comfortable throughout the session.
Coordination is KEY! Think compliment instead of match, the look we want is similar tones and coordinating colors but we don’t want to be totally matching. Picking a color scheme and sticking to the colors included will ensure a cohesive complimentary look. I always recommend looking in your closet and picking a color scheme that includes colors you already own.
Accessories! This section is not for everyone, but if you are not opposed this could really be those final touches that make a difference. Jackets, sweaters, cardigans and scarfs can add some fun variety to your look as well as giving a “prop” to occupy your hands (a little secret). Watches, bracelets, jewelry and hats can make outfits feel a bit more “complete” and add a little extra jazz to your look.
Props! Props are always encouraged, by props I’m thinking of something(s) that are meaningful to you both. This can be things to add playfulness to your session, give you an activity or help you interact with each other. Anything goes! Twister on the beach, kites, blanket(s) to snuggle in and throw around, sparklers, a board game, skateboards, surfboards, the list is endless!
